The New Luxor Theater, located in Rotterdam’s Kop van Zuid near the Erasmus Bridge, is one of the largest theaters in the Netherlands. Designed by architect Peter Wilson, the venue opened in 1998 as a modern addition to the city’s cultural landscape. Its predecessor, the original Luxor Theater (founded in 1917), built a strong reputation by hosting international productions and artists such as Edith Piaf.

Continuing this legacy, the New Luxor Theater attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors with productions like Les Misérables. As a leading cultural venue in Rotterdam, the theater set out to modernize its communication to better support daily operations and improve the visitor experience.

Digital signage enabled real-time updates, dynamic content, and more direct communication with visitors, artists, and staff.

In collaboration with DIVI Media, Luxor Theater implemented a digital signage solution combining a CMS with AOPEN media players. After a successful pilot, the system was deployed across the entire venue, creating a consistent and flexible communication setup.

The main goal of integrating digital signage technology at Luxor Theater was to improve communication across the venue, making it more efficient and engaging for both staff and visitors. This included providing internal updates for employees in designated staff areas, delivering targeted messages to visiting artists, and displaying show-related information to visitors and passersby through both indoor and outdoor screens.

Challenges Before Implementation
Before implementing digital signage, Luxor Theater faced several challenges:

• Updating printed materials was time-consuming and costly
• Traditional communication methods offered limited engagement
• No ability to tailor content to specific areas within the venue
• Manual updates made it difficult to keep content consistent and up to date

To address these challenges, Luxor Theater implemented a solution using AOPEN media players and DIVI Media’s CMS.

The AOPEN DE3650 provided reliable performance for continuous operation, while the CMS enabled remote management and real-time content updates. This allowed the theater to keep information current across all screens.

The setup uses wired connections where available, supported by commercial Wi-Fi in other areas, ensuring stable performance throughout the venue.

The seamless integration with Chrome OS facilitated a quick and efficient connection to the DIVI Media CMS, reducing installation time and complexity.
